Lamborghini Sport Cars

At the end of World War II Ferruccio Lamborghini satisfied his desire for fast cars by running the cars made by Fiat. Mr. Lamborghini himself ran a small machine shop at the time but gradually turned to the manufacture of tractors as the major effort and occupation of his enterprise and efforts. Business went so went with the tractor trade and industrial empire that by the age of 60 Lamborghini turned his attention to his real love - building a car himself. It seemed that Lamborghini thought that with his talents he could design, develop and build a better automotive product that either Maserati or Ferrari.
The chassis was multi-tubular, the front mounted engine a 3.5 liter V12 with four overhead camshafts and six authentic Weber carburetors ; driving through the ubiquitous ZG five speed into a limited-slip rear-end it produced 360 horse power and a coil and wishbone independent suspension meant that all power was indeed usable.
The bodywork was a closed coupe designed by the famous Paolo Dallara and featuring retractable headlamps at the leading edge of the now typical flat curve of the Italian sports car. One must remember that this all occurred in 1963, 20 years before anything built in the U.S. - that is other than the Chevrolet Corvette - featured similarly clean aerodynamic lines.
But the first Lamborghini was a one-off for the men who built tractors, and although he went on to build about 200 of these cars over the next two years; it was by no means accepted as a super car, at the time. Indeed it took until 1965, at the world famous Turin Motor Show, that Lamborghini himself crossed the dividing line between the rich man's toy and the specialist motorcar maker. Originally a Dallara inspired spyder, the Miura T400 which went into production for the coming 1966model year was a mid-engined coupe with a slightly larger, four liter version of the ohc V12 slung transversely behind the two seats, driving the rear wheels by spur gears. This time Lamborghini built his own gearboxes and rear axles, the frame was a box section affair beneath the monococque body. The whole lot, in the end, weighed in at 2700 lbs.
The V12 gave a mighty 385 bhp. Top speed of this little coupe indeed coupe could top even 180 miles per hour and made it one of the fastest road cars ever - certainly enough to place along the best that wore the prancing horse of the neighboring Ferrari factory.
It was no wonder that the Lamborghini Miura was instantly accepted into the super car league and remains to be said to be one of the best looking and most attractive vehicles that Lamborghini ever gave his name to. Certainly the Miura was most uncompromising and might easily have been for designed for endurance racing at Le Mans rather than for road use. It has been said by critics of the marquee that this is reflected in the high levels of cockpit noise created as all the elegant and powerful precision machinery whirred into vibrant life virtually just inches behind the driver's ears, something which is typical of high performance mid-engine sport cars. However fans of thorough bred Italian machinery will state that they would rather listen to this wondrous purr than a cell phone or modern ipod - or even the conversation of their passenger.

The Ferrari 458 Italia

Over the last decade Ferrari have enjoyed the best ever run of success in the Formula One Grand Prix seasonal races, with the seven times world champion "Michael Schumacher racing with the Scuderia Ferrari Team winning five of his world championship titles at Ferrari.
The Italian sports car manufacturer Ferrari is based in Maranello and was founded by Enzo Ferrari in 1929, as Scuderia Ferrari. Since then the famous race team and their race sports cars have been synonymous with the motor racing world and making Ferrari the oldest Grand Prix team in the world. The recent era of Grand Prix racing has lifted the Ferrari Brand and the "Prancing Horse" motor sports car marque to new heights and seen sales of their famous car models rising with their successes.
Ferrari's latest accolade they have scooped this year is the coveted "Performance Car Of The Year" in the World Car Awards (WCA). The annual World Car Awards is a program which is initiated by, organized by, and conducted by automotive journalists from all around the world. So the 458 has had a gatifying nod by the motor industry's journalists as to what the collective feel is the best of the best available year on year.
The Ferrari 458 continues in the tradition of mid-engined V8 sports car models, whose history stretches back to the 1970's, which were truly exotic to wannabe Ferrari owners in their day. This current V8 incarnation in the guise of the 458 has a 4.5 litre power-plant, with 563bhp engine which will be more than enough to get you up to the top speed of 202 mph and the super quick 0-60mph of 3.3 seconds.
Even with its race pedigree and supercar engine the Ferrari 458 will actually potter around town in seventh gear at 30mph! Which is amazing for such a car and not normal for a £160,000 supercar. This is due to the huge torque available in the engine and features like ant-stall.

Getting the Best Car Rental Deals

Rental Car services can considerably save you time and offer you flexibility and freedom when you are traveling. Getting a good rental car deal can save you money, while meeting your requirements. Car rental services also come in handy for other situations apart from when you are traveling, such as for weddings and other occasions. Picking Your Car
The right vehicle is the vehicle that suits your needs and falls within your budget. Will you be traveling with children, friends, gear or equipment? Do you wish to save money on energy consumption rates? Will you be requiring something classy or fast? Most companies offering services related to car rentals offer various cars for various needs. From flashy models, to roomy sedans and even an eco-friendly car, if that is what you require.
Be sure to also consider other factors such as if the car has an automatic or shift gear system. In some countries, shift gear cars are very popular, so you need to sure they have a car you can drive. Other factors worthy of consideration are the extra options you may want the car to have such as a ski rack or a GPS system. Extra options and requirements may cost you a bit more. It always helps to first determine the type of car that suits your needs and taste before trying to get a good car deal.
Book the Car
Now that you know the type of car you need, you would need to make a booking in advance to make it easier for you. The internet makes this quite easy to get good rental car deals. Here again, the right choice is based on certain factors. For example, how long will you need the car? If you require the car for a short duration, like below a week, you can get a good rental car deal from major rental companies. Some major rental service providers include Avis, Alamo, Dollar, Budget, Enterprise, Thrifty, National or Hertz.
If you will need the car for a longer period, then you may get better car rental deals from local rental companies or car dealers. Take note that local rental companies and auto dealers may have limited insurance cover. When deciding on which provider to rent a car from it is advised to shop around. Compare rates, services and deals. Websites such as Kayak and Travelocity are useful to help compare rates.
Take Advantage of Promotional Codes
Many major car rental companies offer promotional codes for discounts rates. You can do a search online before booking for a car. Simply search using the name of the rental company plus the term "coupon codes". Coupon codes help you get a better car rental deal as they could save you as much as 5 to 20 %.
Better Deals for Regular Users
If you are regularly in need for car to rent, it may help you to ask for discounts from major national rental organizations. Some companies offer discounts and negotiated rates for frequent renters. You can also join a car rental frequent loyalty program for better car rental deals.

How Car Rental Reviews Can Help You to Avoid Pitfalls

With so many people on the go these days, traveling either for business or pleasure, transportation has become big business and everyone is cashing on it. Once you fly from one destination to another, you need a mode of transport that will allow you to travel freely at any time of the day or night without being at the mercy of someone else who has promised to pick you up but canceled at the last minute. With so many rental car companies available all around the world, booking your car in any country has become extremely easy. In order to find out which company is best, especially if you are traveling abroad, you must read the rental reviews that appear online so that you can get an idea about the car rentals and their offers and charges and very especially what others have to say about a particular company.
Booking Your Car Beforehand
Car rentals do not come cheap when compared to using your vehicle. However, when you are in another country, you have no option but to rent a car either for business or pleasure and its best that you make your reservation before hand to ensure that you have a vehicle all set for you when you arrive at your destination. By reading car rental reviews you will be able find out who gives the best deals and if you have a favorite model, you can check and see if the company has that particular model for you to rent. When you read the car rental reviews you have the advantage of comparing rental companies, their rates, facilities and what suits you best as per your specific requirements.
Package Deals
If you are planning to go on a trip with your family, your best option is to find a package deal that is tailor made for you. Many companies give such deals for a family unit or for a group of people that would be more cost effective than the standard rates they normally quote. Look for car rental reviews that gives good comments about the vehicles that were offered to people and where they were satisfied with the condition of the vehicle, the rates and other facilities offered. You can learn a great deal from these car rental reviews in which most people make no bones about the trials and travails they had to undergo while on the road after having rented a vehicle from a particular car rental.
Reading the Rental Car Reviews Online
If you are lucky enough, you may come across car rental companies that give special cut rates or discount coupons for joining a program or entering a competition. While these discounts may sound good to you, be careful and read the car rental reviews of the particular company to see why they are offering lower rates. It could be due to their service not being of a comparable standard with others resulting in their losing business or getting too many bad reviews which keep prospective clients away. Always remember that if something appears too good to be true, then it probably is.

Cape Town Car Rentals

Through experience I've learned that I prefer traveling on my own in retrospect to accompanying a tour group. Yes, you miss out on some social activities, but if you travel with a friend, Cape Town car rentals is your best bet to see and do everything you want and the added chance of stumbling on something not on your itinerary is very good.
The car
Generally people would choose the biggest car that they can afford, but Ryno, a friend of mine accompanying me on the tour and I decided to hire a car that resembled something like a matchbox, both in size and colour. It looked liked it was a fun little car to drive. Our seven day trip started in Cape Town and we planned to end up in Hermanus, staying over in each town before returning to Cape Town. Ryno, my partner in crime for several years now, was our most dedicated driver for the first part of the trip, while I was in charge of the map which lead us to our first day in Hout Bay.
As you drive into Hout Bay there is a sign that states: "Welcome to the Republic of Hout Bay". A republic indeed, as you can see while driving through the town that the people of Hout Bay love and takes care of their little fishing village from their very own pocket. From the harbour we took a cruise out to Duiker Island where there is a large Seal Colony. Also known as Seal Island, this is the spot where thousands of Cape Fur Seals lie around lazily and it gives you the chance to view them in their natural environment. Seals are quite entertaining; they move in a funny manner, look extremely lazy and uncomfortable, but in water this rather large animal proves to be quite agile.
Simon's Town
Our first night on our road trip was spent at a friendly and cosy Simon's Town's guesthouse. This naval town is very beautiful with its Victorian and Cape Dutch architecture. Along the Main Road there's an array of restaurants and cute little coffee shops. During our stay in Simon's Town, Ryno and I attempted to sea kayak. Neither of us had ever kayaked before and I was rather nervous at first, but found it was a lot easier than I imagined. We kayaked along the shore to Boulders Beach where a colony of Jackass Penguins has been established for quite some time. For the duration of the time that we were moving around the area of the colony we were followed by two penguins that seemed to find us as their daily entertainment, instead of the other way around. They followed us about halfway back to Simon's Town before heading back to the colony.
Gordon's Bay
The following morning we were back on the road and on our way to Gordon's Bay. Gordon's Bay is a known hot spot for anybody who enjoys swimming in the ocean because Bikini Beach is well protected from the wind, and that was exactly what Ryno and I planned for our day. After a couple of hours on the beach, Ryno suggested we joined the locals for a draft at the local seaside pub. This proved to be a wonderful idea! The weather was perfect for a cocktail and by sunset the pub was buzzing with both locals and tourists alike.
We were told that Gordon's Bay is a favourite amongst fishermen, but neither Ryno nor I fish, yet we opted to support the sport by having supper at one of the local fish restaurants. As expected, the fish couldn't have been any fresher, but what Ryno could not get enough of was the sauce they served with fish. We asked the waiter on our way out what it was, but left disappointed since it was their original recipe which they preferred to keep a secret. Silly really, but completely understandable.

Sport in Ireland

As beautiful as the scenery of Ireland is, as rich as her history and as breathtaking her ancient sites, monuments and homes all are, sometimes people don't go there for the scenery; sometimes they don't even go there for the whiskey! Sometimes people are really just desperate to see one of Ireland's sporting matches played on home ground, and travel there for that express purpose. You don't have to have gone to Ireland only to see the sport to enjoy it, though; even the casual tourist may find it enjoyable to take a day off from sightseeing to take in a match, and cheer for a team.
Possibly the best-known Irish sport is rugby. A fiercely competitive, full-contact sport, rugby really has to be seen to be appreciated. Rugby is also the sport that unites all of Ireland; North and South come together in this one thing, men from all over the island donning their country's colors to play as one Irish team. There is a fierce national pride inherent in the sport, and to take the chance to watch a match is to really get a glimpse of a truly Irish pastime.
If rugby's not your thing, however, there are still plenty of other sports to interest. You may be intrigued by the Irish sport of hurling, something that is very vaguely reminiscent of lacrosse in terms of the types of equipment used. Hurling, however, is a strictly Irish pastime, and can be traced back over 2000 years. If hurling does not interest, you may instead want the chance to take in some Gaelic football, which is often described as a fast sort of mix of rugby and soccer, or even camogie, a ladies' sport that is a slight variation on the aforementioned sport of hurling.
Whichever type of match you do decide to take in -you may even decide to try them all!- a day spent taking in the wonders and the glories of Ireland's sports and games is a day well spent.

Muscle cars were built for street-line speed and does not have the lithe appearance, engineering integrity and sophisticated chassis present in European high performance cars.
The Chevrolet Chevelle at the beginning only had 327 V8 and the 396 V8 for its engines but it then had the most powerful rated engine among muscle cars when it sported the LS6 454 engine in 1970. It is one of the fastest being rated number 9 at Muscle cars list of the fastest muscle cars.

Rent A 1962 Austin Healey

The Austin Healey was a British brand of sports car that was last produced in the year 1972. The company was established through a joint venture set up in 1952 by Leonard Lord of the Austin division of the British Motor Corporation(BMC) and Donald Healey, a renowned designer and automotive engineer. In 1968, the joint venture came to an end after their 20 year agreement expired. Donald Healey left the company in 1968 when British Motor Holdings merged into British Leyland. Healey eventually joined Jensen Motors in 1952 and became their chairman in 1972. And in a nutshell, this marked the end of a great run of a sports car.
The Austin Healey, however brief this merger proved to be, managed to have three models built between 1953 to 1971. The models that were built on 1953 to 1959 were named Austin Healey 100. It was given that name due to the fact it was one of the few cars of that era which could maintain a speed of 100 mph or 160 km/h.
The next models were built on the year 1959 to 1967 and were called the Austin Healey 3000. It was suppose to be called the "Mille Miglia" after the famous sports car race, but the 3000 name stuck instead. The 3000 name comes from its 3000 cc engine. The last model, which was the Austin Healey Sprite was built in the year 1958 to 1971. These models were also alternatively called Frogeye, Bugeye or Spridgets.
Despite its short life span, the Austin-Healey still made its mark on popular culture in the UK and overseas. The father of Sam Witwicky's character in the 2007 movie "Transformers" can be seen driving an Austin Healey, Eli Cash of the Royal Tennenbaums also has an Austin Healey 3000 as his ride, and Steve Martin's character in the movie "Father of the Bride" drives a black Austin Healey.
The first car made for Mattel's Barbie doll was a pink Austin Healey and in the music video "Everybody Wants to Rule the World," Tears for Fears member Curt Smith drives through the desert of California on an Austin Healey. The Austin Healey Sprite also appears on number 9 on the AskMen list of Top 10 All-Time British Cars.
Organizations and events for Austin Healey enthusiasts also exist. There is the Austin Healey Club from UK and the USA . The Spridget 50-The Big Party was, in fact, just celebrated on May 24, 2008. It commemorated the official UK Golden Anniversary of the introduction of the Austin Healey Sprite.
Though there are really plans to revive the Austin Healey as of now you still can't buy this car, you can only rent it. And why pass on an opportunity to roll in on one of the most impressionable Brit cars in history? Scoot over to a dealer and rent this sports car at one of the rental cars in the city. By renting it, you get to return to the past and experience one of these classic British sports cars. You may even rent an American sports car built on the same era and get to compare the products from the two different countries. That is what is great about renting, you can have one, two, and even more.
You don't need to wait for this car to be produced in the near future, car rentals are here to give you that experience. Right here, right now. So I guess I'll be seeing you soon in your Austin Healey flying through the asphalt.

The Best Sports Car in the World?

With the return of the legendary 'GTO' badge to a Ferrari for 2010, the question being asked by most people familiar with sports cars and Ferrari in particular is, 'is this the best sports car in the world?'
The model lucky enough to get the GTO treatment and wear the badge is Ferrari's two seat flagship the 599 GTB Fiorano. The Ferrari 599 GTB Fiorano was introduced in 2006 to replace the 575 Maranello. In it's first year the 599 won the Evo car of the year, Evo being the premiere Magazine in Britain focusing on driver oriented cars and a global authority on performance cars.
So the 599 GTB was already a great supercar when it first appeared in 2006, featuring a 5999cc V12 positioned at the front of the car longitudinally. It develops 611bhp and 448lb ft of torque and all of that power is transmitted to the rear wheels via a 6 speed manual transmission or Ferrari's 6 speed 'F1 Superfast' automated manual transmission with paddle shifters.
The 599 GTB also features magnetorheological dampers which are dampers filled with magnetorheological fluid and controlled by a magnetic field. So by varying the strength of the electromagnet emitting the magnetic field you can adapt individual dampers to continuously altering conditions. This semi active suspension is critical on the 599 GTB in compensating for the basic physics of having the engine out in front of you feeding the driving wheels behind you.
The 599 GTB Fiorano is capable of reaching 60mph from rest in 3.5 seconds and can go on to reach 100mph 2.9 secs later, so from 0 to 100mph in 7.4 secs. It also has a top speed of 205mph.
The only 2 other cars to wear the GTO badge were the race bred 250 GTO in 1962 band the 288 GTO in 1984, both of which are rare and extremely sought after these days. GTO stands for Gran Turismo Omologata and derives from the 2 previous models which were built as homologation specials to allow Ferrari to race them.
The 599 GTO gets the detuned version of the race car spec 599XX 722bhp engine but still produces 670bhp with 457 lb ft of torque. The transmission is a 6 speed paddle shift auto manual with an uprated 60 millisecond gear change time. This will allow the car to hit 60mph in 3.35 secs and will probably be able to hit 100mph from standstill in 6.5 secs and will go on to hit 208mph.
The 599 GTO has a bespoke 6 into 1 exhaust manifold and no doubt will sound fantastic. The underside of the car has also seen some changes to allow the maximum amount of down force to be generated with the minimum amount of drag, so there are no overt or obvious racetrack addenda such as a high rear wing but still the car can generate 144kg of down force at 120mph.

Tips on Getting the Best Car Rental Services For Less

Renting a car offers a lot of advantages. When traveling for a trip on business or pleasure, it affords you a number of options, flexibility and freedom. You do not have to travel with your own car, which may not always be feasible, reasonable or cost effective. For these and many other reasons, a lot of people require the best car rental services that there is. This demand has led to a growing list of major and small time companies offering car rental services.
In the midst of all the available choices, one may find it bit difficult to identify the company offering the best rental car services to suit personalized needs. Today, a number of factors have made renting a car trickier. The economic recession plus increased taxes have forced many rental companies to hike their prices. Many automakers have stopped giving out discount rates to large fleet buyers, causing rental companies to charge higher. Some rental companies now even charge for services that used to be free. Here are some tips to help you secure the best car rental services at less cost.
Do Not Limit Your Search
Companies and websites offer various prices that change regularly. No car category or website will offer the best car rental rates all the time. What may seem as the cheapest rate may be bested by a new and better offer just made available on another website. To get the best car rental rates, you need to search web. Some good web links to begin your search include Travelocity, Expedia, Orbitz, Priceline and Hotwire. You can also check the direct sites of some major rental companies for the best rental car deals available. You may need to check periodically to get updated on the best car rental deals.
Start Early
If you have a scheduled trip or occasion that warrants your renting a car, it pays to start the search early. When you book in advance, you can fix in on the present best car rental rate, which hedges you against future price increases. If the rates do drop, or if you find better rates elsewhere, you can simply cancel the booking and opt for the cheaper deal.
Small is Not Always Cheaper
When looking for the best car rental deal available, some people make the mistake of assuming that a small car may mean cheaper prices. A number of rentals have slashed down their rates on larger cars such as SUVs when they noticed people where avoiding it due to the higher fuel consumption rate. So if you require large car space, and won't really be doing much driving then bigger cars may just be your best rental deal.
Check Price Over Services Offered
Opting for the least quote may not always be the best deal. For example, some local car rentals offer limited or no form of insurance. If you should unfortunately be engaged in an accident you may end up paying more. Some rental agency also save you money, as they speed you through the check out services and can offer more value added services and better cars.
